: I am not an expert with oriental items, but my guess is that they are probably Japanese and not chinese (they could be Chinese, but I have never seen a set from China) Does the picture look more like a Japanese woman?

: These are probably for drinking rice wine (saki in Japan, I do not know what the term is in Chinese)

: The picture in the bottom is known as a lithophane -- the image is made with a mold, leaving thin spots where the image should be brightest.

: Depending on age, condition, and the subject matter, these start at about $15 and go up -- risque or erotic pieces go for more.

: : My mother was givin 4 chinese cups that look like shotglasses. If you hold them up and look into the light you can see a faces on the bottom. I just wondered if anyone knows what they are. They seem very old. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You are correct. They have a womans face. Also the mold was poured thin on the bottom. Nothing erotic but they are very interesting to look at. Thank you for your help.
