Even with the size of my collection, more often than not, I can tell if I have a glass or not. But because there are many variations on the same glass, I do bring a list with me.
I have all of my glasses in the computer. I print out the list in alphabetical order). I print them out as "two pages on each 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper," so now it is more like a paperback book -- and it fits in the back pocket.

: So...how do you avoid buying the same shotglass twice? I have a database but its not portable (take-along)Sometimes I buy the shotglass a second time because I forgot I already have it. Sometimes I buy it a second time because its part of a sellers "set". Any comments?
