Are most of us in the liberal definition camp?
I think that Pickvet was wrong on boots and handles (and Libbey makes things with handles that they call shots). I think he said something about glasses smaller than one ounce, but many european glasses hold 2cl or 2/3 of an ounce.
One of the newer style "glasses" that really do not fit even the most inclusive definition is a style of Vodka chiller -- an enclosed area at the bottom of a long tube, meant to be submerged in ice water, to chill the alcohol without diluting it (see picture).
One glass I am not sure about is the Jagermeister footed glass -- quite common, but is it a shot? It fits the "functional" definition but with thin sides and a foot it falls in the gray areas
Another questionable style of glass is the 4 ounce "stages" glasses -- different measuring lines with humorous sayings. They are the same size as a standard double, but with thinner glass, they can hold 4 ounces.
Pickvet listed "jumbo" glasses in the first book -- they hold 12 or 15 ounces. They are humorous "joke" glasses, but does a joke glass count? There is a newer style of these, like an over-sized HRC shooter. Also a "gag" gift, but is it a shot? Does just calling it a shot (with the appropriate design features such as measuring lines) make it a shot?
In practical or functional terms, I have consumed quite a few shots that contained more than two ounces of alcohol, but I could not tell you how large the largest was...
: : We need to establish our own rankings. The conservative collectors have all these rules and dimensions. The liberals say "Hey! If I use it to shove booze down my throat its a shotglass!!" My guess there is a middle ground and we can establish it. Start posting your thoughts.

: : I have wriitten Guiness a few times , have not heard back. I visited Brad in Las Vegas a few years back. I don't think he was actively growing his collection. As Mark stated- if guiness only counts standard shot glasses my number of those would be about 15,000. I have thousands of shooters- Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood , etc. / plus boot shaped, handled, larger, european, and other assorted glasses that I'm not sure how Guiness would handle. Your right Paul, we need to come up with a collectors standard, that works , and takes into account the newer trends (Hard Rock, shooters, etc.). Alden w.
