Mark Pickvet's book "Shot Glasses: An American Tradition", Antique Publications, 1989 cites 18th century English Parliment deregulating the distillation and sale of Gin and the subsequent "dramming" of strong liquors as the incentive to develop "firing glasses" which are similar in form and function to depression tall shotglasses. Then an 1840's Parisian glass company coined the term 'shotglass' for their quill ink pen dipping glass that held shot to clean and support the quill.
This book also includes reproductions of pages reportedly from 1870's and 1880's catalogs showing literally hundreds of fairly modern looking shotglasses. Many have the names of western territories, towns, or states with the added terms of 'Jigger','Sham', 'Punch' or 'Punty'.
This is the only book of his I own. Does any of this material appear in his other works?
