These are essentially a "gimmick" or "cute" or "unusual" spin on a set of traveling glasses. Apparently it was common to carry a set of "nesting" glasses or cups when traveling by horseback. I have not figured out if this practice was only for special occasions (like a fox hunt) or if it was common for every trip.

The british have a term for the -- something like a "set of four"

The most common "container" that I have seen is shaped like a barrel. Other shapes are apples, pears, and cats.

: Help looking for the name of an item, it looks like a large egg with shot glasses inside it. FOund at an estate sale, can anyone help with what this might be?
