It is quite common for ships of this era to have metal cups/glasses with the line's name and/or insignia on them. These are usually souvenirs, and not part of the ship's normal barware. They often came as a set of 4 cups in a leather case -- there is a name for this set of 4, which was usually connected to horses but I cannot think of the name at the moment.

If the insignia and flag is "professional" or original looking, while the name is hand engraved, it is probable that the name was added later by the person who purchased it

I have a set of 4 from the Holland America Lines, in the original box, and the person who purchased it wrote the name of the ship and the date on the inside of the box cover.

These glasses would probably be of most value to a collector of shipping memorabilia. To a shotglass collector I'd guess that they would go for about $10.00 each

: I have acquired two Silver (830) shot glasses that are hand engraved 'MS Oslofjord' with the N.A.L ensignia in a flag. (Plus some other hand engraving) The makers mark is D-A for David Andersen a respected silversmith/jeweler from Oslo, Norway since 1876. I am trying to get some information on how these came to be on the ship; specifically were they just considered barware, or were they created as a souvenir? I am also trying to date them closer than between 1949-1969 when the ship sank. And determine a possible value. Any help is appreciated. Thanks very much.
