The glass is a bit large for most people to call a shotglass, but I'll tell you what I can. If the case is padded, that means that it was probably made before World War II -- the case was used to protect the glass during travel -- in the days before plastic, if you brought something to drink from when you traveled, you either had a glass in a padded case, or a metal folding cup. Day trips with a group of people would have a set of 4 nesting cups. Since the decoration is the name of a place, it was probably a "useful" souvenir -- use it on your travels, and remember where you got it...
The raised lettering was more popular in the US before WWI so the glass may be even older -- but I am not sure if the same is true for Great Britain.

: A friend of mine just got back from a trip to England. He bought me a shotglass that I think is rather unique and have yet to find any information online or on this site about it.
: The glass is a 3 oz. I believe, maybe larger.
: From Margate - words with a flowery design around the letters.
: The writing is a raised frosted white on clear glass.
: I know the glass is from Margate, Kent UK
: No other identifying marks as far as designer.
: The only other thing that I found unsual about the glass was the holder it came in, a burgandy leather cylindrical case that splits in two to hold the glass.
: Any info anyone has would be much appreciated.
: Great site...by the way....learned alout about my collection from it.
