I have never heard that the color "tells what kind of drink," and I've never seen them used in a bar. A more likely explanation is that it is a quick and easy (and cheap) way to add color to "jazz up" plain glasses. A little paint on the bottom of plain glasses is cheaper than ordering colored glasses.

: I was wondering what type of shot glasses these are, how many different colors there are and if any of the colors mean anything. Hopefully someone out there can send me to a website so I can gather more information on these shot glasses. The bottom of these shot glasses have a colored dot. So far I have found dark blue, light blue and red. I was told that these were made to help bartenders tell what a person was drinking. Any help out there??
