comments intertwined with the original

: I recently visited the Database and read the Feb 2003 article again and had questions about the molded glass "Just A Thimble Full" shotglasses.
: 1. Has anyone positively identified the circled W mark as either L.G. Wright or Westmoreland?

the circled W is supposed to be a "newer" mark of L.W. Wright
http://www.woodsland.com/carnivalglass/pages/trade2.htm

The complication here is, the company that made the mold is L.G. Wright while the company that put the glass in the mold could be Westmoreland (or some other glass company -- Wright used whomever had a free production line). The Items were sold as being L.G. Wright.

Mosser, the company that is/was reproducing them purchased the L.G. Wright molds, and made reproductions -- since the reproductions do not contain the mark, I assumed that the glasses with the mark are "originals." But Mosser purchased the molds in 1999, and I purchased numerous glasses before 1999, some with and without the mark, so the mark cannot be used to determine "originals" from "reproductions."

Since L.G. Wright used different companies to "put the glass in the mold" it is possible that the older unmarked glasses were made by company X while the older marked glasses were made by company Y. Whether X or Y is Westmoreland is unknown. The only definite knowlege of Westmoreland manufacture is that they made the purple slag glass items for L.G. Wright during the 70's -- and the purple slag thimble that I have was purchased in 2000, and does not have a mark.

: 2. Are Database entries #0695 and #8502 duplicate entries? also #1833 and #8505? also #5444 and #8506?

They could be duplicates -- 8502, 8505 and 8506 were specifically purchased in 2001 as Mosser reproductions. I have not had time to compare them with the previously obtained glasses to see if there are any differences.

: 3. Is #1354 really "Orange" or is it an "Amber" color?

If it is amber, it is the "lightest" amber glass that I have (but then I am color blind, especially in the orange and browns :)

: 4. The desription of Shots #1132 and #1900 differ from the others with the word small, how small are they? and what is a 'Mettalic' Cobalt color?

They have the same proportions as the larger glasses, just smaller. #1899 is 1 49/64 high, 1 1/2 wide at top. #1900 is 1 46/64 high and 1 1/2 wide at top. #1132 is 1 50/64 high, 1 36/64 wide at top. The "normal" sized #8502 is 2 4/64 high, 1 52/64 at top. #1899 and #1900 have the same pattern on the base (similar to the larger ones), while #1132 has more of a raised ring at the base.

I believe that the correct term for the metallic color is iridescent -- a thin metallic outer coating added to the outside of the glass.

: Thanx, any info would be appreciated.
